How to create audio recordings

The recording experience differs depending on which web browser you use. We recommend that you use the record function in Chrome or Firefox to record audio or upload an audio file (in MP3, WAV, OGG, AAC, FLAC, M4A formats).

Recorded audio will appear as one of the following links below the discussion thread, announcement, or assignment description/submission:

  • a .wav file (in Microsoft Edge) or

  • an html page with the recording embedded as an attachment (in Chrome or Firefox).

To add audio:

  1. Access the relevant tool.

    1. When creating or editing an announcement, click the Record Audio button in the Attachments section.

    2. When creating or editing an assignment, click the Record Audio button in the Attachments section. This is located in the Properties tab.

    3. When posting a message on a discussion board, click Add attachments and Record, then select Record Audio from the drop-down menu.

    4. When students access an assignment, they have the option to Record Audio and then submit. You also have the ability to Record Audio when viewing specific assignment submissions.

  2. Your recording experience will differ depending on your browser:

    • If you use Internet Explorer or Edge: The first time you open the capture audio feature, the pop-up window for Adobe Flash Player Settings will appear. Select Allow.

    • If you use Chrome or Firefox: A message will appear below your address bar when you try to change your microphone settings or record audio. Either select Allow (or select the camera icon on the right side of your address bar) to give myCourses access your microphone.

  3. The recording screens appear different depending on your browser:
