Different resources have different copyright license agreements. You should review license agreements before using copyrighted material. Below, we provide links to license pages, where available. Contact McGill’s copyright librarian if you have questions about copyright.

Find images
Add banners and media to your home page, content modules and units, and discussions topics to make your site visually appealing. These web pages offer free, high-quality media/images that you can add to your course:

Find video
AVON: Academic Video Online (ProQuest): A video platform with more than 62,000 titles spanning a range of subjects, including anthropology, business, counseling, film, health, history, and music.
Can-core: An archive spanning a wide range of subjects, produced in Canada, and including resources relevant to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies.
Criterion on demand: A digital library of feature films, including classics, new releases, foreign films, literary adaptations, documentaries, animated titles, and independent features. A VPN connection is required for off-campus access.
Drama online: A library of filmed performances of plays at the National Theatre, London; the Globe Theatre; and Shakespeare’s history plays.
Films on demand: A web-based digital video delivery service which allows users to view streaming videos of more than 20,000 educational titles in dozens of subject areas.
Kanopy: A streaming video service for educational institutions that works directly with filmmakers and film distribution companies to offer documentaries, training films, and theatrical releases across diverse subjects and disciplines. Instructors and students have free access to Kanopy through the McGill Library.
National Film Board (NFB): The NFB’s archive includes animation, documentaries, experimental films, and alternative dramas, including those of foreign countries.
Find music
The Naxos Music Library includes the catalogues of many independent classical labels, such as BIS, Marco Polo, Vanguard Classics, and VOX. It also offers access to text resources: opera synopses and libretti, glossaries of musical terms, and work details and analyses for many major works. Sign in to the Naxos Music Library via the McGill Library’s Online audio and discographies reference page.
The Schulich School of Music provides McGill-only access to a concert recordings database of large ensemble performances (including opera) from 2008 to the present. A VPN connection is required for off-campus access. Sign in via the School’s McGill concert recordings page. Selected video recordings of performances can also be found on their YouTube channel.
