Taking Attendance with ID-card Scanners

Hardware Requirements

You scan students' McGill ID cards directly into using a USB barcode scanner hooked up to a computer with internet connection.

When can you scan people in?

This swiping function with the access code will work any time before the event, until 1 hour after the end time of the event posted on myInvolvement.

Instructions

  1. Copy the Swipe Access Code found on the "Manage Event" page
  2. Navigate to the McGill card swipe page: https://involvement.mcgill.ca/swipe
  3. Enter the Event Access Code and press Submit
  4. The text field should now read "Ready to Swipe."
  5. Make sure you have clicked into this field that that your curser is blinking, otherwise you will not be scanning into a field.
  6. You may scan the the student's McGill ID card.

Scanning "Offline" for Later Upload

If you do not have access to internet at the event, you can barcode numbers into a text file (such as Word or Excel) to for later upload. View our instructions on tracking event attendance; you can paste barcode number into the text entry field.
