Choose how to run your Polling @ McGill session

Slido is McGill’s polling tool. You can run a Polling @ McGill (i.e., Slido) event using three different tools: Internet Browsers; Slido Switcher; and PowerPoint Plugin.

Internet browser 
(For PC, Mac, iOS, Android)

You can run a polling event using your internet browsers on your computer or smartphone.

Compatible browsers include Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari.



This option is recommended if you would like:

  •  

    • full access to customization of the polls before and during the event.

    • to take full advantage of Q&A tool moderation.

    • the participant view of the poll available during the event.

Advantages

  • Jump between questions and full editing access while running the event.

  • Access the most customizable option with all the features available.

  • The control panel allows you to:

    • Monitor the Q&A tool.

    • Create questions while running the event.

    • Choose a non-linear order to run your event.

    • Modify the visibility of the poll results while presenting.

  • For PC users: Use Alt + Tab to move between screens.

  • For Mac users: Use the three-finger swipe to move between screens.

Disadvantages

  • If using PowerPoint while lecturing, you have to switch between the presentation and Slido during lectures.

Run a Polling @ McGill event from an internet browser

  • Internet browsers compatible with Slido

  • Run a event using Present mode

  • Run a event using Admin mode

Slido Switcher 
(For PC and Mac)

Control your presentation remotely using another device, such as your smartphone.

This option is recommended for PC and Mac users who:

  •  

    • Have polling questions already planned and want to follow a linear order without any modifications to the polls while presenting.

    • Would like to control the polls while being away from their computer.

Advantages

  • Activate polls while being away from your computer.

  • Jump between questions and have full editing access while running the event

  • Monitor the Q&A tool during while presenting.

  • Modify the visibility of the poll results while presenting.

Disadvantages

  • You need an additional device to control the polls remotely (i.e. smartphone)

Run a Polling @ McGill event from Slido Switcher

  • Install Slido Switcher

  • Control your presentation with another device

PowerPoint plugin 
(For PC)

You can add Slido Live Polls directly to your Powerpoint presentation.

  • This option is recommended for PC users who:

    • Have the polling questions already planned and want to follow the linear order without any modifications of the polls while presenting.

    • Do not need to moderate the Q&A tool while presenting.

Advantages

  • Create questions directly in PowerPoint and add them to your slides.

Disadvantages

  • You have limited customization opotions.

  • You can only create or modify questions in the presentation mode.

  • You cannot moderate the Slido Q&A tool while presenting.

  • The Slido control panel is not available when presenting.
