Manage security in Zoom

You must sign in to the McGill Zoom portal with your McGill credentials before you access Zoom in myCourses. This will create your instructor account with the appropriate license.

Enable authenticated user access
You can secure your Zoom lecture by enabling access to only authenticated McGill students or staff.
If you are hosting a session with a guest speaker or participant(s) from outside McGill, select “Any Authenticated Zoom User.” However, this will not prevent zoom-bombing - this option only prevents users who are not registered in Zoom via an e-mail address from joining your session.
Zoom tab in myCourses
To enable this feature in myCourses:
Navigate to the Zoom tab.
Create and schedule a session.
In the Security section, select Require authentication to join and then select McGill Users.
Zoom web portal
To enable this feature in the http://mcgill.zoom.us portal:
Log in using your McGill credentials.
Select Meetings from the left-hand navigation menu, then select Schedule a Meeting.
Create and schedule a session.
In the Security section, select Require authentication to join and then select McGill Users.
Protect your class from Zoom-bombing
Zoom-bombing (or Zoom trolling) entails uninvited students entering a Zoom meeting and trying to disrupt the proceedings. This is done by the participant taking advantage of Zoom functions, such as screen sharing, screen annotations, unmuted mics, and video feeds to disrupt the meeting.
The phenomenon of Zoom-bombing has become a topic of concern for instructors as Zoom has been adopted widely as an online teaching tool. Familiarizing yourself with Zoom and implementing best practices will protect you against unwanted visitors to your “classroom.”
