View analytics for lecture recordings in myCourses

The lecture recordings page in your course contains a wealth of information to help you gauge student engagement with recorded material. You can view analytics for any videos in your course, including Zoom cloud recordings, classroom lecture recordings, or videos that you have uploaded directly to the Lecture Recordings page.

Analytics are available only for videos that are stored in the Lecture Recordings page. If you have manually uploaded videos to the Content page in your course, you will not be able to view these analytics. However, if you have uploaded videos to the Lecture Recordings page and then embedded the recordings in the Content page of your course, these analytics will be available.

To view analytics in your course:

  1. Click Lecture Recordings. The Tools window will appear.

  2. Click on the Manage Recordings icon , then scroll down to find the recording that you wish to view.

  3. Click the Recording Details icon beside the video. The details pane will appear.

  4. Click on the Analytics tab at the top-right of the window. Analytics will appear, as illustrated in the screenshot below.

The analytics that are visible in the window include:

  • Viewing engagement: this graph, located in the bottom right-hand corner of the window, illustrates the number of students who viewed any given portion of a video as illustrated by points in time in the video. You can drag your cursor along the graph’s trajectory to see how many people viewed different portions of the video.

  • Views by day: this bar chart illustrates the number of views the video has received within the time-period that the video has been available. The chart will adjust based on the video’s availability. The chart will also show the number of downloads, if applicable, for the video over the same period.

  • Unique users and total views: this table gives a list of viewers, the number of times they have viewed the video, and the approximate amount of the video they have watched. This section can be exported to a .csv file by clicking on Export to .csv. You can change the number of Viewers visible in the table by selecting the dropdown arrow beside the Rows per page heading. You can also search for an individual user with the Search field at the top-right corner of the table.
