McGill provides multiple options for you to create and share videos, screen captures, and audio with your class. Some multimedia software are freely downloadable from the McGill Software Site, while others have limited licenses and must be requested. Consult McGill’s list of currently approved tools to see which software must be requested.

Video

Camtasia Studio is a video and audio editing software for creating new video or capturing video of a computer screen. You can also create and edit videos, and add captions and quizzes to videos. Camtasia Studio can be downloaded from the McGill software site for students, faculty, & staff.

While Zoom is most frequently used for live lectures and meetings, you can also use Zoom to record video.

VoiceThread is an interactive media player for creating, editing, and sharing media files, such as images, slides, videos, and .pdfs. You can record media with annotations and comments, and save media as a video file to be shared on external platforms. VoiceThread is an external learning tool that can be added to your course in myCourses. McGill has limited licenses available, so you must request access to the tool here.

Screen Image Capture

SnagIt is an image-editing software for capturing, editing, organizing, annotating and sharing images and screen captures. SnagIt can be downloaded from the McGill software site for students, faculty, & staff.

Audio

Camtasia Studio and Zoom also record audio only.

  • Leave feedback on an assignment.

  • Post a message in a discussion forum or thread.

  • Create an announcement using the Announcements tool.
